The Grand Secular Alliance government led by chief minister Nitish Kumar came under attack on Saturday after a bullet riddled body of an assistant sub-inspector Ashok Kumar Rai was recovered in Bihar’s Vaishali district.
The Opposition parties peeved by rising crime graph in the state and recent spurts of killings including the murder of police inspector threatened to launch a statewide protest against the deteriorating law and order of the state.
“Murder of police official is an important issue, even they are not safe in Bihar what will happen to general public here. The entire scenario has changed in Bihar; engineers, doctors and the police are being targeted and I had warned people about this during Assembly election campaign”, former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi said in Patna.
Ironically, the body of sub-inspector was recovered a day after the Bihar DGP claimed that the crime graph in Bihar has reduced and “strict policing has been imposed to ensure that no incident takes place”.
According to Mr Manjhi, his party Hindustani Awam Morcha will begin their statewide campaign against the state government from January 12 onwards. He said, “HAM workers will begin protest against the government’s failure in curbing deteriorating law and order situation in the state”.
Earlier former deputy chief minister and senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi had attacked the government after the killing of two engineers in Darbhanga over a fortnight ago and had also slammed Nitish Kumar government claiming that incidents of extortion and kidnapping for ransom has escalated since the formation of government.
According to the BJP, around 585 persons have been killed in Bihar within 60 days and more than 16 incidents of idol theft has been reported so far. “Masses are forced to live in fear. Crime is rising fast and government is sitting and watching them being killed”, BJP state president Mangal Pandey said in Patna on Saturday.
