Debt-ridden farmer kills self in Madhya Pradesh

The district has witnessed 37 per cent less rainfall than normal rainfall so far in the current season.

Bhopal: A debt-ridden farmer in a Madhya Pradesh village committed suicide by consuming poison late on Wednesday night, police said.

Rakesh Dhakad, resident of Dhaunda village in Morena district, took the extreme step when he suffered crop loss due to moisture stress in his agriculture field in the current kharif season, his family members said.

According to the kin of the deceased, he had taken a loan of Rs 3 lakh from the local money lender. He had been under depression following crop loss and took poison late on Wednesday night.

He was rushed to the district headquarters hospital where he died during treatment, police said. Morena district has experienced deficit rainfall this monsoon.

The district has witnessed 37 per cent less rainfall than normal rainfall so far in the current season.
