Mathura: At least 100 people have been booked for "snatching and burying" the body of a 26-year-old woman, who allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself, at Sahar village in Mathura, police said on Tuesday.

The body will be exhumed and postmortem will be conducted once the police receives permission from the District Magistrate, SP Rural Arun Kumar said, adding action will be taken against those involved in the incident.

"The police was informed last evening that one Reshama had committed suicide in Sahar village. But when it reached and started conducting the Panchanama villagers snatched the body and buried it," he said.

The police had forbade them from their action. This is a serious offence, he said, adding information was given by police to SDM Goverdhan about the incident.

"Cases have been registered against those who buried the body under relevant sections of the IPC, including murder," he said.

The police has lodged 26 named FIRs, including the victim's husband Saddam, and unnamed FIRs against 60 to 70 others, the SP said.
