Lucknow: In a shocking incident, a man was recently arrested for the murder of his 13th wife. The man was preparing to marry for the 14th time. The accused has also had tried to implicate his friend in the murder case.

The incident, which took place in Pure Kalen Khan village in Rae Bareli last week, came to light when the body of one Reshma was found on the outskirts of the village. Her husband, Mustaqeem, a driver by profession, told the police that he suspected his friend behind the crime because the latter was infatuated with his wife.

Even as the police questioned the friend, the deceased father, who lives in Amethi, told the police that he suspected Mustaqeem for his daughter’s murder.

The police confronted Mustaqeem and he finally confessed that he had strangulated his wife because she objected to his relationship with another woman.

During investigations, it was found that Mustaqeem had married 12 women before he married Reshma. Mustaqeen claimed that he had divorced 12 wives before he married Reshma.

Mustaqeem has been sent to jail but the Rae Bareli police are now trying to track down the 12 wives that the accused claims to have divorced.

According to a senior police official, sources claim that most of the wives belong to Sultanpur, Pratapgarh and Shravasti. “We will be contacting he local police of these districts to find out if the divorced wives are alive and how Mustaqeem treated them. Some local people in his village suspect that he may have eliminated some of the wives since most of them belong to very poor background,” the police officer said.
