Odisha: Son slits father's throat after argument over money
On receiving information, police registered a case and managed to apprehend the accused.
BHUBANESWAR: A youth allegedly slit the throat of his father for money in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Friday evening, police said on Saturday.
According to reports, Surendra Pradhan of Bhaghyadevi Sahi village was working as a daily-wage earner in Andhra Pradesh. During the nationwide lockdown, he returned to his village.
Surendra’s 22-year-old son, Dhoba, instead of taking responsibilities of the family on his shoulders, was spending his time with friends. He used to take money from his father and spend it with his friends.
As Surendra was not always able to bear his son’s daily expenses and meet his whims and fancies, the duo often indulged in scuffles. On Friday evening, they again fought over the issue of money, following which Dhoba slit his father’s throat with a sharp knife. He then ran off leaving his father in a pool of blood.
The neighbourers rushed the victim to the Buguda Primary Health Centre. After his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur.
On receiving information, police registered a case and managed to apprehend the accused.
According to the hospital authorities, the condition of Surendra was stable. “The condition of Surendra Pradhan is stable now. However, he is now kept under 24-hour medical monitoring,” said the hospital authorities.
