UP: 2 women poisoned to death by in-laws over dowry dispute

Muzaffarnagar (UP): Two women were allegedly poisoned to death by their respective in-laws in two separate incidents here, police said on Thursday.

Ritu (30) was poisoned by her in-laws over a dowry demand in the Police Line area Wednesday.

A case has been registered against her husband Ankit (26) and father-in-law, who are both absconding, the police said.

The body of the victim has been sent for a post-mortem and a probe is on.

According to a complaint lodged by Ritu's father, Sukhpal, her in-laws were demanding more dowry from the family.

When the demand was not met, Ritu was killed. She married Ankit in November 2013.

In a separate incident, 23-year-old Pinki was allegedly poisoned to death by Parveen, her husband, over a dowry dispute at Pichokra village in Shamli district on Wednesday,
police said.

The police has arrested Parveen and a case has been registered against him.

Her family has alleged in the complaint that she was harassed for dowry by her in-laws, and later murdered by her husband.

The husband, whom she married a year ago, has denied the allegation against him. The body has been sent for a post-mortem.
