Youth killed as Army fires at stone-pelters

One of them identified as Aijaz Ahmed Butt succumbed to his injuries the hospital.

Srinagar: A youth was killed and another injured after the Army opened fire to quell a stone-throwing mob in Jammu and Kashmir’s southern Kulgam district on Monday.

The officials said that a crowd hurled stones at a foot patrol of the Army’s 9 Rashtriya Rifles at Akhran-Nowpora in Kulgam. The Army responded by opening fire which resulted into the injuries to two person. One of them identified as Aijaz Ahmed Butt succumbed to his injuries the hospital.

A defence spokesman here said that the Army jawans opened fire “in self-defence” when attacked by a violent mob. The injured civilian has been brought to Srinagar. for specialized treatment, the officials said. End it
