Dalit girl burnt alive in UP village, no one held
SP Pushpanjali said that several persons had been detained for interrogation in the matter.
Lucknow: An 18-year-old dalit girl was burnt alive at Bara Sagwar village of Unnao district on Thursday night.
The charred body of the girl, identified as Moni, was found on Friday morning. An empty canister and a box of matchsticks were found lying nearby. Tyre marls of a four-wheeler have also been found at the crime spot.
According to reports, Moni had left her home on a cycle to buy vegetable on Thursday evening when some unidentified persons confronted her. Before she could react, they poured petrol on her and set her ablaze.
The girl, up in flames, collapsed after running for about 100 metres to save herself and died on the spot. The police is trying to find out whether it was a case of stalking or family enmity.
IG Sujit Kumar Pandey rushed to the crime scene around Thursday midnight and spoke to the victim’s family that has ruled out any enmity in the matter.
SP Pushpanjali said that several persons had been detained for interrogation in the matter. A case of murder has been registered against unidentified persons while the body has been sent for post-mortem.
