A dalit youth was stripped and beaten by locals in Rajasthan’s Dausa city for allegedly talking to a girl from the same village, which is 100 km from Jaipur.

He was tied with a rope and paraded in the village with a garland made of shoes on him. He was also subjected to electric shocks.

The man, identified as Mangalram, was apparently asked by the village panchayat to stay away from the girl, but he defied their diktat.

The ordeal didn’t end there for Mangalram. The police refused to file an FIR after the victim and his family complained. Both the police inspector and the ASP, allegedly in connivance with the accused, not only ignored his complaint but put him in lock up.

He had come to the BJP headquarters for “jan sunwai” (public hearing) by ministers, where he narrated his story to education minister Kalicharan Saraf who spoke to superintendent of police Dausa for action against the accused.

The incident took place one-and-a-half month ago. Mangalram was returning home after visiting a temple in a nearby village. It was raining so, he had to change his route and pass by the residences of influential people in the village. After spotting him, around 15-20 people surrounded him and started beating him up for speaking over mobile phone to a girl from a dominant caste in the village. The victim is now afraid to enter his village.
