Government extends ban order on NSCN-K

The Union home ministry on Monday extended ban on NSCN-K and its frontal organisations through a gazette notification under provision of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967.

The faction led by S.S. Khaplang was responsible for killing of 18 Army personnel in Manipur.

The NSCN-K, which had signed a peace agreement in March 2001, had withdrawn unilaterally from the ceasefire agreement in March this year.

Though, the union home ministry had not taken any decision on breaking the ceasefire, the outfit accused that the Central government of contemplating to break the ceasefire.

The Army was mounting pressure on the NSCN-K to follow the grounds rule of the ceasefire agreement and refrain from helping Ulfa(I), NDFB(S) and Metei armed rebel groups.
