The residents of Rasulpur village in Haryana’s Karnal district have had to lock their homes and leave as they could no longer bear the miserable conditions caused by the swarms of houseflies in their homes.

So acute was the situation that the villagers locked their houses and protested in front of the local authorities.

The root cause of the housefly menace, according to the residents of Rasulpur is the large number of poultry farms around their village.

The villagers, who have been facing this menace for a long time, finally decided this week to lock their homes and drive to Karnal in tractors.

They protested outside the government rest house, which was a camp office for chief minister Manohar Lal Khatar till few days ago.

The villagers decided to cook their meals in the premises of the rest house and pitch their tents till their problem is solved.

According to a a resident of the village, “Apart from being a continuous nuisance the problem has stigmatised our village as it has become infamous because of flies.”

Our relative do not want to visit us due flies , even young ones from our village find it difficult to get a match as people avoid marriage in our village”.

The protesting villagers felt that for long people have fallen ill and many lost their lives due to menace of flies. The stench coming out of the poultry farm is also unbearable they complain. It is only after intervention of the local administration that villagers were pacified.

The SDM Karnal Yogesh Kumar along with police authorities reached the protesting villagers and asked them to return home as they promised them to resolve their problem in fifteen days.

The district authorities have already formed an eight member to look into the problem. The committee members would visit village to ascertain the reason behind the housefly menace. According to Deputy Commissioner Mandeep Brar, notices have been issued to the near buy poultry farms also spray has already done in the village to give some respite to the villagers.
