Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati on Thursday termed UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s Vikas Yatra as ‘badhaal vikas yatra’ and said that the majority of those present at the event were the ones who had misbehaved in front of SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav’s house.

In a statement, Ms Mayawati said that the Yadav family and the Samajwadi Party was locked in a battle for supremacy and even the chief minister’s official residence had become a haven for anti-social elements.

“There have been scenes of ministers and legislators beating each other and party workers shouting slogans against their own leaders. This proves that indiscipline is the hallmark of SP,” she said.

In a rare reference to the infamous state guest house incident of June 2, 1995, in which SP workers had roughed up BSP leaders and Ms Mayawati leading to the dismissal of the then Mulayam Singh government, Ms Mayawati said that the recent incidents in the SP reminded her of the 1995 incident.

Ms Mayawati normally does not like to refer to that incident and refuses to entertain any question related to it.

The BSP president said that it was surprising that even after being aware of such incidents, UP Governor Ram Naik insisted that there was no constitutional crisis in the state which clearly pointed towards a BJP-SP nexus.

Ms Mayawati also lashed out at the misuse of government machinery in an event that was political.
