Nearly six months after it received flak for launching a massive hunt for the missing dog of the state’s health minister, the Jaipur police was at it once again, searching for a former minister’s dog. This time the complainant is none other than former minister of state for jails.

For the last 24 hours, the Jaipur police has been searching for senior Congress leader Moolchand Meena’s dog, which was reportedly stolen while he was away with his family. According to the complaint lodged with Mansarovar police, thieves broke into Mr Meena’s house and took away his Labrador on Monday night.

Mr Meena, who was a member of the Rajya Sabha twice and is currently an AICC member, had gone to his brother’s house along with his family. When the family returned the next day, it found the locks broken and the dog missing.

According to the police, the thieves didn’t touch anything else in the house. No cash, jewellery or any other precious thing was stolen. After the minister’s nephew filed a complaint, the police launched a massive search.

In September last year, the police had launched a similar hunt for days to look for the missing dog of state health minister Rajendra Singh Rathore.

Much to their relief, a local person found the dog and returned it to the minister.

However, the police is likely to face the people’s ire over “misplaced priorities” as crime is on the rise in the state, particularly in Jaipur. In fact, none other than state home minister Gulab Chand Kataria had ticked off the Jaipur police for showing more interest in land deals than concentrating with its core work of policing and checking crime.
