Suspended JD(U) MLC Manorama Devi finally surrendered before the Gaya court on Tuesday after her petition for anticipatory bail was rejected on Monday and was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days immediately after she surrendered.

Manorama Devi had gone into hiding after a warrant for her arrest was issued for illegal possession of liquor bottles at her residence.

The police also filed a case of child labour against her after an underage boy was found working as a domestic help at her house during the raids.

“I have full faith in the judiciary,” Ms Manorama Devi, the mother of Rocky Yadav, said on Tuesday. Rocky Yadav is accused of murdering a school student, Aditya Sachdeva, for overtaking his car in Gaya on May 7.

She also denied allegations that liquor bottles were recovered from her house during raids. Terming the charges against her as “politically motivated”, she said, “The truth will come out soon, all charges against me are false.”

The police may seek custody to probe her involvement in trying to suppress facts related to Aditya’s murder. The police also believes she and her husband, Bindi Yadav, tried to help their son evade arrest.

Rocky Yadav was arrested on May 10 from one of the factories owned by his father, who is also in jail. Manorama Devi surrendered a day after Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar said, “Those who are involved in the case will not be spared, I don’t care who the person is.”

The JD (U) had suspended MLC Manorama Devi from the party immediately after her son was arrested and liquor bottles were recovered from her house on May 10.

On Monday her nephew Teni Yadav, who according to the police was with his cousin Rocky Yadav when Aditya was murdered, surrendered before the court.
