Minutes after US secretary of state John Kerry landed in Delhi, his cavalcade got stuck on the water logged street on the way from airport to the city on Monday evening.
American media travelling with Mr Kerry reported that his motorcade was stuck in one of the many crippling traffic jams that have become routine after a heavy shower in the Capital.
Mr Kerry’s plane arrived at Delhi airport from Bangladesh at 8 pm as per its schedule arrival. He was welcomed at the airport. But on the way his cavalcade got stuck on a waterlogged stretch.
Members of American media travelling with Kerry reported the issues on social media by tweeting pictures of the traffic jam. Senior traffic police officials said Mr Kerry’s cavalcade was not stuck in traffic, but had only slowed down at a certain, single point.
“We had done all arrangements to keep the VIP’s passage clear but unfortunately due to heavy rainfall in the city there was high volume of traffic on roads. The cavalcade got slowed down at one point. But it reached the hotel on time,” said Garima Bhatnagar, Joint CP (traffic)
This is Mr Kerry’s fourth trip to India as secretary of state. He is scheduled to hold meetings on Wednesday with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, external affiars minister Sushma Swaraj and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.
