(Photo: PTI) RJD chief Lalu Yadav and former Bihar CM Jagannath Mishra appeared before the CBI court on Friday in connection with the fodder scam. Mr Yadav and Mr Mishra are currently on bail in other cases related to the scam.

The CBI court had directed both the political leaders and 34 others to present themselves for hearing in connection with the withdrawal of Rs 46 lakhs from Bhagalpur and Banka treasuries between 1994 and 1996.

“I have full faith in justice and have respect for the judiciary and will appear before the court whenever I am asked,” Mr Yadav said on Friday after the hearing. The FIR in connection with the multi-crore fodder scam case was first registered in 1996 against Mr Yadav and others. Mr Yadav was the chief minister of Bihar from 1990 to 1997 but had to resign from the post after a chargesheet was filed against him by the CBI.

In 2013 the CBI court had sentenced Mr. Yadav including six politicians and four IAS officers to rigorous imprisonment after finding them guilty in connection with the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37 .70 crores from Chaibasa Treasury bench when Bihar was an undivided state.
