Mother tries to save girl from being raped, killed

A woman was killed when she tried to save her daughter from getting raped. The tragic incident took place on Saturday night at Raghunandapur village in Murshidabad district.

Fatema Bibi and her dau-ghter were sleeping in the-ir house when five armed miscreants barged into the house. They tried to kidnap the daughter and rape her.

Seeing the miscreants forcing her daughter out of the house, the mother resi-sted their attempts and rai-sed an alarm. She fought with the miscreants and tr-ied to stop them from forcing themselves on her daughter.

Having failed to succeed in their attempts to rape the daughter, the miscreants attacked the woman with a dagger and severely injured her. Raised by the alarm, neighbours rushed to the house and took the woman to Jangipur sub-divisional hospital. However, she later succumbed to her injuries.

A complaint was lodged at the Samserganj police station. No one has been arrested so far.

Police sources said that the miscreants were led by Rakesh Seikh, who had attacked the woman repeatedly after failing to kidnap the daughter.

According to the police, the woman had identified one of the miscreants and as a result they decide to take her life.

The mother and daughter lived alone as the father, a mason by profession, lives in South India.

Trinamul Congress MLA from Samserganj Amirul Islam said that such incidents would not be tolerated and demanded immediate action against the culprits.
