Mysuru scion to wed today

With the countdown for the royal wedding beginning, a celebratory mood has gripped the whole of Mysuru, where people hold the royal family in high esteem.

The Mysuru Palace, venue of the wedding between the scion of the 600-year-old Wadiyar dynasty, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, and Trishikha Kumari, daughter of Maharaj Kumar of Dungarpur, Harshvardhan Singh, is decorated with flowers and mango leaves. The marriage will take place at the auspicious Karkataka lagna in Saavithra muhoortha between 9.05 am and 9.40 am, at the Silver mantapa of the palace on Monday.

The bride and groom were engaged in over 14 rituals in separate venues inside the palace, including Ganapathi pooje, Chamundeswari pooje, Punyaha, Ashtanga , Devara sambavane, Matada sambavane, Naandi aavaahane, Naandi pooje, Aachaaryavarna and Dheekshavarthana sweekaara. Yaduveer also did Samaavarthane, which is a pre-requisite to enter gruhasthashrama on Sunday.

The royal wedding lunch will be a spread of 26 items, including Pheni, Laddoo, Badaam milk, Kashi Halwa, Shavige Payasa, Kai Tomato Yennegai Gojju, Channa masala and Batura. Arrangements are being made to serve food to 500 people at a time at the palace.

The consul generals of Britain, Japan and Israel have already confirmed their participation in the wedding reception on Monday evening. Chief minister Siddaramaiah governor Vajubhai Vala, Union ministers, including Mr Ananth Kumar, will attend the evening function.

“When it comes to the wedding arrangements, I am trying my best to follow my late mother-in-law Tripura Sundarammanni, who had arranged our wedding in 1976,” Maharani Pramoda Devi Wadiyar said.

Her husband, late scion Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar had passed away in December, 2013.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in Palace. Mysuru city police commissioner B. Dayanand said that adequate security arrangements are in place.
