Cricketer-turned-comedian-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu is a busy man in Delhi these days. He has been holding meetings in the national capital with members of his group, Awaaz-e-Punjab. The idea is to get his group settled in to be able to run a fully fleged political entity.
As evident from the events in the past couple of months he has burnt bridges with the AAP as well as the BJP. It appears that the Congress has now become the object of his gaze. Congress Punjab in-charge Asha Kumari, however, has said “no” talks are on with Sidhu, though Awaaz-e-Punjab member Pargat Singh met Punjab Congress chief Capt. Amarinder Singh.
According to sources, Capt. Ama-rinder Singh asked him whet-her he represented himself or the ent-ire Awaaz-e-Punjab. The Punjab Co-ngress chief has also publicly said anyone is welcome in the Congress.
Sources said Sidhu’s front and the Congress have been engaged in informal talks. Sidhu wants an alliance while the Congress wants him to merge Awaaz-e-Punjab with the party.
The Congress has also made him an offer that his people would be accommodated in ticket distribution. The number, however, would be miniscule as the Congress has candidates on almost all of the seats in Punjab.
