Even as two more infants died in Ajmer’s Jawaharlal Nehru hospital in Ajmer on Monday morning, yet another incident of insensitive medical staff has come to light — this time in government hospital in Bharatpur.

In an identical replay of reel-life scene from Munnabhai MBBS, a patient suffering from severe stomach pain died at the gate of the government hospital in Bharatpur as the doctors on duty allegedly refused to see him till he got a registration slip.

The family members requested the doctors on duty to see Man Singh urgently but they allegedly refused, asking them to first complete the formalities, including getting the registration slip.

The family members kept requesting doctors but none of them relented and insisted on getting the registration slip first.

Finally, they went to the OPD window but there was a long queue. In the meantime, Man Singh couldn’t bear the pain and died before getting any treatment.

Meanwhile, the death toll of infants in Jawaharlal Nehru hospital has reached eight as two more children died on Monday morning. Earlier, six infants had died within five hours on Sunday. Here too, the medical staff was insensitive.

Associate professor Pukhraj Garg reportedly told the parents that doctors have been trying to save the children in the ICU but those who are not well or their organs have failed cannot be saved. “We are doctors, not god,” he reportedly told the parents. This infuriated aggrieved parents who accused the hospital staff of negligence.

However, health minister Rajendra Singh Rathore while describing the statement insensitive virtually gave a clean chit to doctors even before inquiry report of a three member panel was submitted. “Children who died were low weight and came to the hospital at the last hour. They were suffering from septicemia,” he said but at the same time denied that these deaths were result of malnutrition. Rathore also said that an inquiry team has been constituted and action will be taken after the committee submits its report. He said that still if someone is not satisfied a special team would be constituted. Rathore also defended senior doctors who came to the hospital in the morning a couple of hours after sixth children died while three children had died around midnight. He said that senior doctors cannot remain on duty forever but they are available on call. Meanwhile, head of pediatrics department of the hospital Dr. B S Karnawat who allegedly reached the hospital in the morning after six children had died in the night, has gone one leave.
