The BJP has put the ball in the PDP’s court regarding government formation in J&K, saying while it wanted the existing power-sharing arrangement between the two to continue, it was for the PDP to take the first call.

BJP general secretary Ram Madhav, considered as the architect of the BJP-PDP alliance, when asked about the uncertainty on Monday, said: “The PDP can answer this question. They have to think about the process they have to complete. It is for the PDP to take the first call. They have to decide about their leader and come forward. I hope they take a decision soon, so this uncertainty ends.”

However, the BJP appears to have got unnerved by Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s visit here Sunday to condole Mufti Muhammad Sayeed’s death with PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and other family members. Also, the reports that senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad was in touch with Ms Mufti seem to have left the BJP disturbed, though the Congress said it had nothing to do with politics, or at least government formation.
