The “Phantom of Dantewada”, a fictitious character created by CPI (Maoist) nearly two decades ago apparently to romanticise its ideologies among its cadres in Chhattisgarh’s conflict zone of Bastar, has finally been buried into oblivion, officially, by the reds.

The title had been bestowed on the DKSZC spokespersons, who have also been introduced to the outside world by the rebel outfit in the pseudonym of Gudsa Usendi, to add masculinity to the character. A Facebook page opened in the name of Gudsa Usendi, thus said, “Gudsa Usendi never dies, Phantom of Dantewada”.

Significantly, a latest sta-tement issued by DKSZC secretary Ramanna alias Ravulu Srinivas said “Vikalp has been appointed the new spokesman of the DKSZC”, ending the era of the “Phantom of Dantewada”. “It is a very significant development. Maoists were on the back foot ever since the last Gudsa Usendi aka Gumudaveli Venkatkrishna Prasad surrendered before police in Hyderabad in January, 2014.
