Bhopal: A day after CBI gave him clean chit in the infamous Vyapam scandal, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday slammed the Opposition for levelling “false” allegations.

“I was clean, hence got the chit accordingly,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a function to observe the state’s foundation day on Wednesday.

Mr Chouhan said he was never in doubt that charges levelled against him by the Congress linking him to Vyapam scam would be proved false as they were not based on facts.

The Congress tried to tarnish my image by unnecessarily dragging me into the Vyapam case, he said.

“Congress has failed to take on me in the electoral battle ground and hence made wild allegations against me to harm my image”.

“But, truth always finally prevails,” he added.

The CBI chargesheet on Vyapam scam involving irregularities in admission in different medical colleges and appointments in government jobs in Madhya Pradesh, filed in the court concerned on Tuesday, dismissed charges made by AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh that the hard disk containing information on the scandal was tampered with to bail out Mr Chouhan.

State cooperation minister Viswas Sarang slammed the Congress for questioning CBI for giving clean chit to Mr Chouhan in the Vyapam scam.

“Congress wanted to make it an issue in the 2018 Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh. However, the party appeared frustrated following the findings of CBI probe into it. The party was questioning the findings of the CBI probe to keep the issue alive for the coming assembly elections,” he added.
