PM Modi reaches out to farmers
He asked BJP leaders to convince farmers in the state that they need a government which is sensitive towards their issues.
New Delhi: Hailing BJP’s chief ministerial candidate for Karnataka, B.S. Yeddyurappa as a “farmers leader”, PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday asserted that his party’s “charitra aur svabhaav (character and nature)” has always been for “krishi aur kisan kalyan (benefit of farming sector and farmers)”. While the Congress has been targeting Mr Yeddyurappa over alleged “corruption” charges, Mr Modi said the state “will reap massive benefits” when the BJP stalwart will take over the reins after the polls scheduled for May 12. Mr Modi also hit out at the state’s current ruling party, the Congress, who he alleged completely ignored the state’s agriculture sector and had been insensitive towards the aspirations of the farmers. He asked BJP leaders to “convince” farmers in the state that they need a government which is “sensitive” towards their issues.
Interacting with BJP Karnataka Kisan Morcha members through the Narendra Modi app, the PM asked morcha members to reach out to farmers and convince them that the BJP, if voted to power, will be sensitive to their problems. Mr Modi asked the morcha leaders to go with full confidence to the people and tell them that once Mr Yeddurappa-led BJP comes to power, the state will have twin benefit as the BJP-led Central government is also dedicated towards the farmers. Mr Modi asked the party leaders to act as a bridge between the government and the farmers to further the reach of farmer friendly initiatives.
