Congress chief likely to visit Telangana by end of January

This would be the first visit of Mr Gandhi to the state after taking over as the president of the party.

New Delhi: Congress president Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit Telangana in the third or fourth week of January to address a dalit, Girijan, “Atma Gaurava” (self res-pect) Sabha in Warangal around Sammakka Saral-amma Jatara. After the Winter Session is over and before the beginning of the Budget Session, Mr Gandhi is expected to tour extensively. Insiders also indicate that he may-be visiting the Mahakaal temple in Ujjain Madhya Pradesh.

Telangana state unit chief Uttam Kumar Reddy, during an informal chat, apprised reporters that the programme of the Congress president to visit the state maybe finalised soon. This would be the first visit of Mr Gandhi to the state after taking over as the president of the party.

Mr Reddy also informed that several TRS leaders, including a few sitting MLAs, were in touch with him and many of them are likely to join the Congress after Sankranti festival. He said that all surveys, conducted in the recent past, have revealed that the Congress has got an edge over TRS in popularity graph. Earlier also, several leaders of the TRS and the TDP had joined the Congress in the national capital.
