Tell us your policy on China, Congress asks Centre
The Congress leader urged the government to take all possible steps to ease the situation through diplomatic channels.
New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the government on its China policy. The party demanded that the government should come out clean as to how it plans to respond to the incursions taking place along the Indo-China border.
“Our government calls the incursion a transgression. When you downgrade the incursion as transgression, how will you fight it?” Congress spokesman Ajay Maken asked.
The Congress leader urged the government to take all possible steps to ease the situation through diplomatic channels or be ready in case of a possible attack.
In the past also, the Congress has criticised the government’s foreign policy. It has also chided the Modi government of “swinging” with the Chinese President on the banks of Sabarmati in Ahmedabad instead of dealing with the serious issue of incursion. Mr Maken said, “On the one hand, the PM is on foreign visits, while on the other, we have seen that our government itself is not taking the incursions seriously.”
He added, “First of all, you will need to understand it is a Chinese incursion. The government needs to speedily take aggressive steps or act through apt diplomatic means.”
Senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi said the government has been “caught napping” while the incursions are taking place along the border.
Reiterating the fact that the Congress stands behind the government in all its dealings to counter these incursions, Mr Singhvi charged the government of not being able to implement recent accords between India and China, signed by the UPA government.
