Lok Sabha adjourned amid din over allegations
The Lok Sabha was scheduled to discuss private members bills after 3.30 pm.
New Delhi: The Lok Sabha was abru-ptly adjourned on Friday after clashes between BJP and Congress members following certain bribery allegations made by BJP MP Kirit Somaiya against the Congress.
While the House was discussing matters of public interest, Mr Somaiya claimed that payments worth Rs 4 crore made by a hawala operator had allegedly reached the Congress.
Following this, there was an uproar and shouting from the BJP benches as some Congress members sought to counter it.
Mr Somaiya’s submission was not fully audible amid the din. With the uproar continuing, Spe-aker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the proceedings for the day a little past 3. 30 pm.
The Lok Sabha was scheduled to discuss private membe-rs bills after 3.30 pm.
Many MPs flocked to their respective party offices to be briefed on the presidential polls. The BJP members had a meeting at 5 pm to discuss on the proper ways to vote.
NDA candidate M. Venkaiah Naidu is almost certain to be the next vice-president as he has the numbers stacked in favour of him.
Though the Opposition has fielded Gopal Krishna Gandhi against Mr Nai-du, he is unlikely to mus-ter the numbers despite having the support of the BJD and the JD(U).
