From KG to PG: Congress unveils programme to court dalits
Raj Babbar said that atrocities on Dalits had increased in Uttar Pradesh in the past two and a half decades.
Lucknow: The Congress, on Sunday, released its Dalit manifesto for the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. The eight-point manifesto promises free education for Dalits from ‘KG to PG’ (kindergarten to post graduation), free houses with toilets, safe drinking water and electricity.
Announcing this at a press conference, UPCC president Raj Babbar said that the Congress had always worked for the welfare of Dalits while other parties had exploited the downtrodden and treated them as a vote bank.
He said that atrocities on Dalits had increased in Uttar Pradesh in the past two and a half decades.
Later, Mr Babbar, accompanied by Congress MP P.L. Punia, flagged off the ‘Dalit yatras’ through which the party plans to reach out to Dalits in about 3,000 villages across 85 reserved constituencies. The yatras will focus on ‘Shiksha, Suraksha, Swabhiman’ of Dalits.
