Congress, BJP workers clash in MP
Around 200 BJP workers including Mishra were arrested in connection with the incident, the police said.
Bhopal: Workers of ruling Congress and Opposition BJP on Tuesday clashed over inauguration of a 1,000-bed-hospital in the district headquarters of Gwalior by All India Congress Committee general secretary Jyotiraditya Scindia, provoking police action.
Several Bharatiya Janata Party workers were injured when the police resorted to a lathi charge for trying to prevent a Congress Member of Legislative Assembly from entering the hospital to attend the ceremony.
The BJP workers, led by party Member of Parliament Annupa Mishra, were staging demonstration in front of the hospital in protest against its inauguration by Mr Scindia, They contended that the medical facility was built by the previous Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP government.
The police sprang to action, first lobbing tear gas shells and then resorting to a lathi charge when the protesters tried to stop the Congress MLA from entering the hospital.
Around 200 BJP workers including Mr Mishra were arrested in connection with the incident, the police said.
Incidentally, the police registered a case against senior BJP leader and former minister Viswas Sarang for inaugurating a park in his constituency in Bhopal on Monday.
It was to be inaugurated by state minister P.C. Sharma on Tuesday.
