BJP MLA in soup over rape remark
The MLA also suggested that the Taj Mahal should be renamed as Shiva Mahal and all roads named after Mughal emperors should also be renamed.
Lucknow: BJP MLA Surendra Singh has triggered another controversy with his statement — this time he has said that even if Lord Ram lands on earth today, he will not be able to curb incidents like rape.
The MLA from Ballia said, “Main daawe ke saath keh sakta hoon ki Bhagwan Ram bhi aa jaenge to bhi ye ghatna pe niyantran kar pana sambhav nahi hai. Ye samaj ka svabhavik pradooshan hai, jisse koi bhi vanchit rehne wala nahi hai (I can assure you that even if Lord Ram comes on earth, he will not be able to control such incidents (rape). It is our society’s natural pollution, which has spared none)”.
He further said, “It is our duty to consider every person as our family member and sisters. It’s only through sanskaar (good character) that we can curb it. Samvidhan (Constitution) will not be effective in controlling such crime”.
The MLA pointed out that “The dreaded criminals are eliminated in police encounter, but ‘jism lootnewale’ (rapists) could not be treated in a similar way, such people are only sent to jail. It is the duty of every person to inculcate morality among the children in order to stop rape incidents”. Mr Singh is known for making controversial statements in the past.
He had referred to West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee as “Surpanakha” and termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a reincarnation of Lord Ram.
The MLA also suggested that the Taj Mahal should be renamed as Shiva Mah-al and all roads named after Mughal emperors should also be renamed.
More recently, he landed in another controversy when he compared UP minister and president of Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party president Om Prakash Rajbhar to a dog.
