PM Modi tells Opposition leaders to encourage voting
PM described voting as prime duty of citizens.
New Delhi: Reaching out to political opponents, also including Congress president Rahul Gandhi, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, BSP's Mayawati and TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu and prominent personalities in various fields, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday asked them to encourage people to exercise their franchise in the Lok Sabha elections beginning April 11.
Describing voting as a “prime” duty, Mr Modi tagged political opponents and other prominent personalities on his Twitter handle, along with tweets and also wrote a blog saying exercising their franchise is one of the important duties of citizens and is a pledge of their involvement in the development's course of the country.
Noting that it will be first time that those born in the 21st century will be casting their vote, Mr Modi urged them to get registered for voters identity card and strengthen the democracy.
The PM also tagged former President and Bharat Ratna awardee Pranab Mukherjee, the RSS, NCC, NSS, Nehru Yuva Kendra, sports personalities and sipritual leaders and organisations.
Tagging Mr Gandhi, Ms Banerjee, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, Ms Mayawati, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and DMK’s M.K. Stalin, Mr Modi urged them to “encourage increased voter participation in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls” as a high turnout “augurs well for our democratic fabric”.
He also tagged TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik and YSRCP’s Jagan Mohan Reddy “to work towards bringing maximum Indians to the polling booths in the upcoming elections”.
Showing his witty side, Mr Modi tweeted “It is time to inspire and motivate youth in your own Andaz to vote so that we can strengthen Apna Democracy and Apna country,” while tagging actors Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, who had paired in a Bollywood comedy Andaz Apna Apna.
Tagging the Phogat sisters, Mr Modi tweeted wrestler “We’ve seen you in the wrestling world. I urge you all to support the movement to ensure grea-ter voter participation in the ‘Chunavi Dangal’.
