Lucknow: UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath has decided to set up a task force to check the activities of land mafia in the state.

The task force has been formed to free the assets belonging to the revenue department of the government. The task force will include officials like the principal secretary, commissioner of the division, district magistrate and other officials.

Checking land grabbing had been one of the major poll promises of the BJP. In fact, after the Jawahar Bagh incident last year, the BJP had even set up an email ID for complaints against encroachments.

The mail id ‘kabja.hatao@bjp.org’ was meant to display the party’s determination to stop cases of land grabs.

Meanwhile, the Yogi government has also ordered a probe into distribution of ration cards in Uttar Pradesh and a fresh survey of families living below poverty line. The chief minister has asked officials to prepare a new list of BPL families.

The state government will be printing new ration cards will have silicon chips and barcodes. It will also have details of the beneficiary. Till the new cards are made and distributed, the beneficiaries will be given paper-slips for the purpose of ration.

UP ministers also carried out inspections in Janeshwar Misra Park, one of the many ambitious projects of former CM Akhilesh Yadav, and discovered huge anomalies. “The level of corruption (in the project) is unbelievable,” said UP MoS for housing, Suresh Pasi.
