Bengaluru: Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy’s sudden trip to Singapore to “unwind” is reportedly a game plan of the Congress and the JD(S) to cobble up an alliance beyond the gaze of the BJP in case the Congress failed to get single majority in the critical Assembly elections. Though contrary to majority of the opinion polls the Intelligence reports indicate that Congress may fetch 100 to 105 seats, the party does not want to suffer the embarrassment it had to suffer in Goa last year, where despite being the single largest party it lost the day to an alert BJP.

According to top sources, Kumaraswamy, who left on an ‘impromptu’ two day vacation/medical tour to Singapore, was reportedly followed by JD(S) MP Kupendra Reddy and real estate baron Veeranna Reddy of Manyata Tech Park to firm up a discreet ‘Plan A ‘ of the two parties to form the coalition government. Kupendra and Veeranna were reportedly handpicked by the party because of their alleged proximity to Congress leader of the Opposition in the Centre — Mallikarjun Kharge and JD(S) supremo H.D. Devegowda. There was however, no confirmation about this alleged clandestine contingency arrangement from either the Congress or the JD(S).

“The deal is to have JD(S) on the side of the Congress in case of a fractured verdict. The details of the deal will depend upon the numbers either of the parties gets,” said the source.
