Jaipur: Angry over an alleged proposal to reduce their salaries, Rajasthan’s policemen are on protest for the last one week. They even refused to give guard of honour to Union home minister Rajnath Singh who had come to Jodhpur to inaugurate the West Zone Regional Training Centre of the Intelligence Bureau.

More than 250 policemen proceeded on mass leave, among them were eight jawans who were chosen to give guard of honour to Mr Singh. He was finally given guard of honour by another set of policemen.

The same day, a similar embarrassment awaited additional director general of police M.L. Lathar as the policemen refused to give him the guard of honour when he visited the Jodhpur Police Commissionerate.

Mr Lathar said that those involved in this act of indiscipline were recruited after 2004. He said action would be taken against them.

On the other hand, the policemen are up in arms following speculation that their salary would reduce after revision of their pay scales by the government. In a WhatsApp message that went viral a few days ago it was mentioned that the new order would reduce policemen’s pay scale from the existing Rs 24,000 to Rs 19,000. Since then, thousands of policemen across the state have been using various methods to protest.
