UP polls 3rd phase: Home minister Rajnath Singh casts his vote
The Union Home Minister also urged voters to cast their votes and encourage others to exercise their franchise.
Lucknow: Asserting confidence over marking victory in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will form the government with absolute majority.
"Not just with clear majority, but the BJP will here form the government with absolute majority. After the two phases and the present scenario, it is clear that BJP will come into power here," Singh said after casting his vote in Lucknow.
Singh also urged the voters to cast their votes and encourage others to do the same.
"I would like to appeal to people to cast their votes and encourage others to do the same. It is a festival of democracy and everybody should participate in it," he said.
"Everything will be clear on March 11," he added.
With the ongoing polling for the third phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, 12 percent voter turnout was recorded on Sunday till 9 am.
With Kanpur recording a voting of 7.71 percent, Kannauj saw 11.65 percent voting and Sitapur 11 percent.
With over 826 candidates from 105 political parties contesting for 69 seats, polling began on Sunday morning for the crucial third phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections.
The polling began at 7 am and will continue till 5 in the evening. Polling parties have been sent to polling centres amid tight security.
The districts going for polling in this phase are Farrukhabad, Hardoi, Kannauj, Mainpuri, Etawah, Kanpur, Kanpur Dehat, Auraiya, Lucknow, Unnao, Sitapur and Barabanki.
