New Delhi: In Lok Sabha, a belligerent Opposition kicked up a din on a range of issues, ranging from cow slaughter and farmer suicides to vigilantism. The Lower House was adjourned twice. The first time was just after seven minutes of the House starting its proceedings for Question Hour before being adjourned till 12 noon and the second time during the Zero Hour which forced Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to adjourn the Lok Sabha for the day.

While some Opposition MPs like K.C. Venugopal, Kalyan Banerjee and others from the Congress, RJD, TMC and the Left used the usual floor tactic of trooping into the well of the house, others shouted slogans and displayed placards — all the time demanding discussion on the range of issues.

The placards carried slogans like, “Gau mata toh bahana hai, karz maafi se dhyan hatana hai (cow protection is a tool to divert attention from farm loan waiver)” and “Vijay Mallya ko bhagaya, kisano ko rulaya (Vijay Mallya was allowed to flee even as farmers were reduced to tears)”.

There was a demand from within the treasury benches too with BJP members from Karnataka holding placards and standing demanding protection of honest officers in the state in apparent reference to the recent transfer of DIG (Prisons) D Roopa, who had alleged that AIADMK leader Sasikala Natrajan was provided special facilities and services inside prison.

However, amid the din, three bills and several parliamentary committee reports were tabled.
