'Routed' in Tamil Nadu, Palaniswamy calls exit polls a lie
he exit polls have suggested that the AIADMK would get close to 10-12 seats in the 38 constituencies of the state.
Chennai: The exit polls have predicted a clear majority for the ruling National Democratic Alliance but its ally in Tamil Nadu is not impressed. Tamil Nadu’s chief minister E Palaniswami has called the exit polls “a lie.”
The exit polls have suggested that the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) would get close to 10-12 seats in the 38 constituencies of the state. While the Congress-Dravida Mukta Kazhagam (DMK) coalition is expected to get close to 25-28 seats.
One of the polls has shown that the DMK would make a clean sweep and may end up winning all 38 seats. This is a replica of the AIADMK’s result in 2014 wherein it had won 37 seats.
The AIADMK is running a minority government in the state. It needs four more assembly seats to secure the majority. Whereas, the DMK needs 21 more seats to form the government. The state also voted for 22 assembly constituencies which had by-poll.
If the exit polls hold true, then the AIADMK may lose out on the state as the results may repeat for the state as well.
This is for the first time that both the AIADMK and the DMK have contested in the absence of their supreme leaders J Jayalalitha and M Karunanidhi respectively.
After Jayalalaitha’s death, her aide Sasikala’s nephew has formed a new party named AMMK which saw 18 MLAs of AIADMK moving to AMMK. AMMK would split AIADMK votes and may help the DMK.
Rubbishing exit polls and slamming the BJP, TTV Dhinakaran today said, "After making media carry favourable report about them before polls, they've unleashed their next bundle of lies in the name of exit polls. This is to play games during counting after demotivating us. We've to be vigilant during counting."
