Cong launches logo, website of its 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' from Kanyakumari to Kashmir

New Delhi: Congress on Tuesday unveiled the logo, tagline, and pamphlet for its upcoming Bharat Jodo Yatra amid the presence of senior party leaders. The tagline for the Yatra is ‘Mile kadam-Jude vatan’. The five month long yatra will start on September 7 from Kanyakumari and will end in Kashmir. The Yatra is aimed at countering the “environment of hate” prevalent in the country, party leader Digvijaya Singh said on Tuesday.

Digvijaya Singh and Congress MP Jairam Ramesh announced details of the countrywide yatra at the party headquarters in Delhi. Ramesh said that the tour will begin from Kanyakumari.

Around 100 people -- Athithi Yatris -- from the states through which this yatra is not passing will join the main yatra while another 100 -- Pradesh Yatris -- from the state will also join, taking the total number of padayatris to 300 at a time. Asked in which group Rahul Gandhi falls into, Singh said he is a big leader of the country and will be a 'Bharat Yatri' in the yatra. "We want to bring the Bharat Jodo Yatra in the form of a public movement," he said.

Jairam Ramesh said, "Bharat Jodo (Uniting India) is the need of the hour. Inflation, GST, unemployment are breaking India. Social polarisation is being done in the name of religion, caste, language, food, clothes. In politics, the Centre is concentrating power." He added that the website will live-stream the entire yatra. In states where the yatra is not on the route, he said that there will be parallel yatras.

All those participating in the yatra will be staying in containers mounted on trucks and no one will be staying in hotels. The party has identified at least 22 cities and towns where they will have big functions, including in Kochi, Thrissur, Nilambur (Kerala), Mysuru, Bellary, Raichur (Karnataka), Nanded (Maharashtra), Indore, Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh), Kota, Dausa, Alwar (Rajasthan), Delhi, Ambala (Haryana), Pathankot (Punjab), Jammu and Srinagar.
