Congress Controlling Narrative in Telangana: Rahul
Gandhi emphasised that the BJP often succeeds by diverting attention and preventing their opponents from shaping their own narrative
New Delhi: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, speaking at a private media event in Delhi today, confidently declared his party's prospects in the upcoming Assembly elections in Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan. He also hinted at a potential "surprise" for the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He stated, "Right now, we are probably winning Telangana, we are certainly winning Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, we are very close in Rajasthan, and we think we will be able to win. That's what BJP is also saying internally."
Reflecting on the lessons learned from the Karnataka elections, the former Congress president emphasised that the BJP often succeeds by diverting attention and preventing their opponents from shaping their own narrative.
“In Karnataka, we fought the election in a way where the BJP could not dictate the narrative. What you're witnessing today, with Bidhuri's comments and the sudden emergence of Nishikant Dubey, is the BJP's attempt to divert attention from the critical issue of the Caste Census. They understand that it's a crucial demand of the people, and they want to avoid that discussion," Rahul Gandhi remarked, referring to BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri's recent derogatory remarks about BSP MP Danish Ali in the Lok Sabha.
Commenting on the Women’s Reservation Bill, the Wayanad MP accused the BJP of lacking seriousness in its implementation and contended that they had not taken substantial steps to support women in the country. He called for the immediate enactment of the bill, stating, "It can be implemented tomorrow morning; it’s very simple and straightforward. If the BJP was genuinely committed to it, that’s what they would do. There is no connection between providing women's reservation and the Census and Delimitation. They are unrelated matters, and it's merely a distraction."
Rahul Gandhi also highlighted that Opposition parties were adapting and collaborating, suggesting that the BJP should be prepared for a potential surprise in the 2024 general elections. During his address, he underscored several critical issues facing India, including wealth concentration, significant economic inequality, rising unemployment rates, unequal treatment of lower-caste communities, OBCs, and tribal groups, as well as the escalating cost of living.
