Present generation must be sensitised about issue, says Venkaiah Naidu

New Delhi: The period of Emergency should be a part of the school curriculum so that present and future generations are sensitised to the dreaded events of 1975-77, said vice-president M. Venkaiah Naidu.

“Emergency is not made part of the learning of the young. I want all this a part of the history. It is time we make Emergency, which is the darkest period of Indian democracy, a part of the curriculum so that the present and future generations are sensitised to the dreaded events of 1975-77 and learn to value the democratic freedom they enjoy today,” said the vice president. Mr Naidu was speaking after releasing A. Surya Prakash’s book The Emergency — Indian Democracy’s Darkest Hour in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, and Gujarati.
