Mayawati defends ties with Samajwadi Party, indicates alliance for 2019 polls
Mayawati added that the personality of Dr Ambedkar was humanitarian and impartial which can never be a reality in the BJP and RSS rule.
Lucknow: BSP president Mayawati on Monday said that the newly-forged friendship between the BSP and SP is in national interest and the BJP will not be able to divide the two political parties now.
“We have joined hands with Samajwadi Party in national interest and not for any selfish interest. The BJP will not be able to create division between us by pulling out skeletons from the cupboard,” she said while talking to reporters at her residence on Monday.
Ms Mayawati, while addressing a meeting of party coordinators earlier, underlined the need for an alliance and asked them to strengthen the social alliance between the vote banks of the two parties and gave clear indications that the two parties would ally for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
She alleged that being worried over to the Samajwadi Party-BSP alliance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is now using Dr B.R. Ambedkar’s name for political gains.
Ms Mayawati added that the personality of Dr Ambedkar was humanitarian and impartial which can never be a reality in the BJP and RSS rule.
She added that the ideology of the BJP and RSS was against the Constitution, caste and community. She claimed that the public is now disillusioned with the BJP rule, adding that the dalits and other backward castes are lagging behind in all sectors.
“In the past four and a half years of their government, the BJP has been continuously indulging in theatrics on issues related to dalits and backwards who have been attacked like never before. Any more drama on this issue will not get any political mileage for the BJP,” she said.
Ms Mayawati added that the BJP can never realise the dream of Dr Ambedkar, which was uniting the country and its people under the spirit of the Constitution.
“The BJP and the RSS have a narrow mindset and believe in the politics of communalism and casteism which is not embedded in the Constitution,” she added.
Ms Mayawati emphasised that the Opposition parties will have to work together if they want to stop the BJP from returning to power at the Centre in 2019.
