Union home minister Rajnath Singh said here Wednesday the Centre was determined to seal the India-Bangladesh border completely to halt all infiltration from Bangladesh.

Mr Singh, addressing his first public meeting at Duliajan, urged the armed rebel groups in the Northeast to shun the path of violence and said the government was open to the idea of resolving the conflict situation through talks. “If the militant groups give up violence, we are ready to hold talks with them,” the minister said.

Accusing the Congress government in the state of having failed to stop the infiltration from Bangladesh, Mr Singh said: “Intruders have been continuously entering India since the day Bangladesh was created... What is the reason, why didn’t you (Congress) stop them Why didn’t you completely seal the India-Bangladesh border ”

He also highlighted the steps taken by the Centre to stop the infiltration in Assam. “We just need some time and we’ll seal the border completely so that no Bangladeshi intruder can enter,” he said.
