The special cell of the Delhi police on Sunday arrested a 32-year-old man from Haryana’s Mewat district for alleged links with Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), making it the fifth arrest connected to the terror outfit’s India module.

Having received arms training from Pakistan, the suspect, identified as Abdul Sami, was picked up from Nuh town in Mewat, said the police.

Special commissioner of police (special cell) Arvind Deep said Sami was brought to Delhi and produced before a court which remanded him in police custody till February 1.

A native of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, Sami, the police claimed, was being mentored by Abdul Rahman, a madrasa cleric who was arrested from Jagatpur area of Cuttack on December 16. Rahman’s arrest was the second in the ongoing operation.

The police said that so far they have identified three persons whom Rahman had inducted into the AQIS and sent for training. “Apart from Sami, who has been arrested, the other two — identified as Abu Sufian and Umar Hyderabadi — are still believed to be in Pakistan,” said the police.
