Ulfa says no Hindi songs during Bihu celebration

The anti-talk faction of outlawed Ulfa here on Tuesday warned Assam singers from singing Hindi songs in the upcoming Rongali Bihu festival, besides threatening the organisers to desist from allowing dance on any Bollywood numbers.

In an email sent to local media, the outfit said, “We urge singers not to sing Hindi songs at least for first seven days of the Rongali festival.”

In the same press statement, the Ulfa said, “The dancers are also advised to refrain from dancing on Bollywood Hindi songs.”

In an obvious bid to win over the local sentiment, the Ulfa said, “We urge the artistes to perform the local ethnic communities’ songs and dances at the Bihu functions.”

This has come close on the heels of spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s attempt to broker peace with elusive Ulfa chief Paresh Baruah. The spiritual guru recently claimed that he was in touch with Ulfa chief and trying to persuade him to join the peace-process with the government. The Art of Living founder said, “I had a talk with Paresh Baruah. I am trying to persuade him for talks. I am very optimistic of a positive outcome.”
