Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje will donate six months’ salary to the Mukhyamantri Jal Swavlamban Campaign.
The state government has allocated Rs 295 crore for the first phase of the campaign, which will focus on water harvesting and water recharge system. The money will be spent on conservation of traditional water bodies and construction of anicuts to provide drinking water in rural areas.
Addressing a workshop on the campaign, Ms Raje said the government alone cannot make this campaign successful: “We will have to keep aside our political differences and everyone — from public representatives, religious organisations, NGOs and individuals — will have to support and make a contribution to it.” She said Rajasthan has limited surface water, therefore it was essential to limit exploitation of groundwater.
