Women bus conductors soon on short routes in UP
The UP State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) will soon start hiring women bus conductors.
The UP State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) will soon start hiring women bus conductors.
In the first phase, women bus conductors will be deployed in the Agra region and will do day duty. Six women bus conductors have already been appointed but they are presently working as clerical staff.
According to UPSRTC officials, women bus conductors will initially be deployed on short routes which will enable them to return to the parent destinations the same day.
Officials feel that the deployment of women bus conductors will not only open new avenues of employment for women but will also instil a sense of safety in women passengers.
A major concern for the officials is the safety of women bus conductors. A proposal to appoint at least one security personnel on buses where the bus conductors are women is also under consideration. In fact, women are apprehensive of their own security while working as bus conductors.
One such candidate who has been appointed said, “How can women be expected to check rowdy behaviour in the bus unless there are proper security arrangements ”
