A youth was arrested on Monday after he made an abortive attempt to throw slipper at Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar. The incident occurred when the CM was busy meeting with other people during the “Janata Ke Darbar Mein Mukhya Mantri” programme at his official residence at 1, Anney Marg.

“The youth has been arrested and we are trying to find out the real motive behind the act,” senior SP Patna Manu Maharaj said.

It later appeared that the youth was protesting against the advisory issued by the government which stops the people of Bihar to cook or perform pujas during daytime in rural areas.

The chief minister when asked about his reaction on the issue condemned the act and said, “Throwing chappals at me will not solve problems but I have forgiven the youth and have asked the DGP to forgive him from my side”. Adding to this he said, “Running a government is like wearing crown of thorns. It’s my duty to create an environment of safety and governance in the state”.

Adding he said, “I don’t need certificate of religion from anyone my government works for the people”.

The advisory was issued by the disaster management department last month to avert incidents of fire in the state. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that the advisory was issued after detailed study of some of recent incidents in which several people lost their lives.

“I am running a government here and not doing naukri (jobs). The state government has issued the advisory for the safety of public in Bihar”, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said while talking to reporters after Janata Ke Darbar mein Mukhya Mantri Programme in Patna.
