IIT-Kharagpur can now proudly boast that it has shaped the CEO of one of the world’s leading companies after its alumnus Sundar Pichai was announced as the next CEO of Google. Mr Pichai was a 1993-batch student of metallurgical and materials engineering department and registered as P. Sundararajan.

“Congratulations Sundar. You are an inspiration for IIT-KGP students and the whole IIT-KGP family is proud of you. Wish you the very best,” IIT-KGP director Partha Pratim Chakrabarti said. For Sanat Ray, a professor here for the last 45 years (and an IIT KGP alumnus himself), it is a very proud moment. “We are proud of all of our students. But what Sundar has done has been truly exemplary in more senses than one. He has achieved this while in his early 40s,” said Prof. Ray.
