A section of Bengal BJP leaders, including the party’s former Birbhum district president Dudh Kumar Mondal, on Tuesday announced that they would sit on a hungerstrike in front of the BJP state headquarters on November 27 if Rahul Sinha was not removed as state BJP president.
The dissident state BJP leaders alleged that a section of central BJP leaders, including Bengal in charge Siddharth Nath Singh and others, were backing the “arrogant” and “inept” Mr Sinha to suit their own interests.
The leaders were of the view that Mr Sinha must be immediately removed to “save” the party in Bengal and for its betterment before the 2016 Assembly polls.
“Serious allegations such as misappropriation of funds and lack of credibility to run the party have been levelled against him. We had also said that if the party did not take any action by November 15, we would be forced to take other action. Now that the deadline is crossed, we have decided to observe a hungerstrike in front of the statue of S.P. Mookerjee, beside the party headquarters on November 27,” another dissident party leader Subhas Sarkar said.
Other leaders accused the state BJP leadership of “going slow” against the Mamata Banerjee government and remaining “silent” on intolerance in Bengal.
