India will have to adopt polyandry if boys far outnumber girls. Indeed, this message needs to be broadcast loud and clear. It will touch a raw nerve of the patriarchal mindset and go a long way in checking girl foeticide and infanticide. It is a fact that India’s child sex ratio (0-6 years) came down from 945 girls for thousand boys in 1991 to 927 in 2001 and slipped further downward to 914 in the 2011 Census. The ratio has become so uneven that one boy out of 10 will not get his life partner.
